Design Space splits a raster upload into colour layers only on a paid Cricut Access plan. We hand you an SVG whose colours are already separate layers, so the feature never comes into it.

Traces from this page use flat colour only, with no gradients or clip paths, and the workspace shows the live path count. Design Space refuses any SVG over 5,000 paths; if a detailed design goes over, switch Trace Mode to Flat Art, which uses far fewer.
Download The SVG
Choose SVG, not PNG. A PNG goes through Design Space's image cleanup, while an SVG arrives as ready-made cut paths. Skip DXF if you ever cut from your phone: the iOS and Android apps do not open it.
Upload It
On desktop, select Upload on the left of the Canvas, then Upload Image and Browse, or drag the file in. Select Continue, add a name and tags, then Upload. On a phone, tap Upload on the bottom toolbar, pick the file, name it and tap Upload.
Ungroup, Then Set The Size
A layered SVG lands on the Canvas as one grouped image. Ungroup it to move and size layers separately. Then check the width and height in Size on the Edit bar, with the lock on to keep proportions, before anything goes near the mat.
Mirror Iron-On Before You Cut
Heat-transfer vinyl is cut from the back, so the design has to be reversed. Auto Mirror switches this on when you choose Iron-On or Infusible Ink, but check the Mirror toggle on the project preview screen before you press go.
Why SVG Beats Uploading A PNG
Splitting a PNG into colour layers uses Multiple Layers, which needs a Cricut Access subscription. A layered SVG separates by colour on its own, on any plan, so each colour is already its own cut layer the moment it lands.
What Design Space Will Refuse
Gradients and pattern fills, clipping paths, editable text, and linked or embedded images all trigger an unsupported-items warning. A trace from this page contains none of them: every shape is a flat, closed path.
Attach, Weld Or Slice?
Attach keeps pieces in place on the mat exactly as they sit on the Canvas. Weld, under Combine, joins overlapping shapes into one outline. Slice cuts one shape out of another and needs exactly two layers selected.
Fewer Specks, Easier Weeding
Every tiny island of colour becomes a tiny piece of vinyl to pick out. Flat Art drops stray specks as it traces, while Photo mode keeps every one. For anything left over, Contour in Design Space hides small pieces so they are not cut.
